A Name and Word Index to Nga Mahi a Nga Tupuna

The University of Otago Press Te Whenua Series brings together works by and about people for whom the countries of the Pacific region are their home.

In the Introduction to a Name and the Word Index to Ngā Mōteatea, Harlow and Thornton (1986), reference was made to the ease with which further indices of the same type could be produced for other corpora of Māori text. The present volume is just such an index, and provides references in the form page no.:line no. to the occurrences of the names and words in the most recent edition of George Grey’s Ngā Mahi a ngā Tūpuna, Grey (1971), surely the most important published collection of Classical Māori prose narrative.
