Landfall Tauraka is Aotearoa New Zealand's longest-running literary journal. Published twice yearly by Otago University Press and edited by Lynley Edmeades, it showcases new poetry, fiction, essays, criticism and visual art from established and emerging voices. Founded in 1947 and renamed Landfall Tauraka in 2025, the journal continues to play a vital role in Aotearoa's literary and cultural life.
Submit your work
We welcome original, unpublished submissions from Aotearoa New Zealand and Pacific writers, or work connected to the region by theme or setting. Australian work is occasionally included as a special feature.
Simultaneous submissions and resubmissions of previously declined work are not accepted.
Submissions must be the author's own original work and must not have been generated by, or created with the assistance of, artificial intelligence (AI) at any stage.
Poetry: up to 5 poems per issue
Prose: up to 2 pieces (maximum 3000 words per piece, including endnotes)
All submissions must be complete, stand-alone works
We welcome work in te reo Māori, accompanied by an English translation

Submissions must be uploaded as a .docx file. Other file formats will not be accepted.
If submitting more than one piece, please combine all pieces into a single file.
File name must be in the format firstname_lastname.docx (e.g. alex_smith.docx).
Include your name on every page of the submission.
Include a short contributor bio (around 30 words).

10 January (for May issue)
31 May (for October issue)
Submissions are accepted year-round and considered for the next issue. Responses are sent after content for each issue is finalised (March and September).
