Written for readers aged 12 and up, Out of the Box profiles people who have challenged societal expectations and claimed their space. The short, engaging stories with bold illustrations, celebrate both big achievements and everyday life. They show that many of the mountains Deaf and disabled people face in Aotearoa are created by society – and that those mountains can be moved. The book also includes a detailed timeline.
Trish Harris is a writer, creative writing tutor, and disability advocate. She is the author of my wide white bed, and The Walking Stick Tree, and co-founder of Crip the Lit.
